My Review - The Den of Iniquity - (19/4/17)
The Den of Iniquity (Bastards of London #1) - By Anabelle Bryant
5☆ ++ Mesmerising & Captivating full of Passion
Den of Iniquity is a story about revenge, gambling, villains, passion, Tantalising and Raunchy encounters, it was about friendship and loss and new beginnings.
I loved every single minute and eagerly devoured every last page.
Max Sinclair (known to he's friends as Sin) is one of the main characters.
He is very much rough around the edges and is not a man to be messed with!
Which is why I was drawn so much to him.
He was captivating and mysterious and held a dark past.
He oozed stature and danger, men feared him and women wanted to ravish him.
Max's past is deeply saddened by tragedy.
He was born a 'Bastard', he's mother was a mistress to a man with money.
She demanded a better life for Max (Sin). He's legitimate father paid for Sin's gentry and he was taught at Eton.
However tragedy was about to strike when he's mother was raped and brutally murdered by three men.
He's father cut all ties and money leaving Sin on the streets with nothing and to fend for himself.
Sin wasn't about to let poverty beat him down. He became good friends with two other men and so they built up the Gambling Hell. An exclusive club for the wealthy and villains.
Sin vowed revenge on the three men who murdered he's mother.
He was so consumed with revenge nothing was going to get in he's way!
Well that was until the beautiful angelic Lady Vivienne came along. Things were about to change Sin's life forever.
Lady Vivienne had lost her mother and is currently living with her Step Father.
Who gave me the creeps.
He eyed Vivienne in ways a step father shouldn't.
She was just coming out of her period of mourning when she encountered Sin in the graveyard whilst doing some charity work.
She was instantly attracted to Sin. She was curious and wanted to know more.
He hands her he's business card and says if she ever needs him to come by.
Vivienne looks at the card and realises he is the owner of the notorious Underground Gambling Hell. It's dangerous, full of dangerous people and ladies of the night.
No place for a lady!
However she cannot resist and in her heart she believes Sin needs reforming and she is the one to do it.
When she finally does attend the hell, Sin is angry but excited and full of lust for her. Her pins her to the door and eagerly explores her mouth... their hearts pounding, both knowing this is wrong but feels so right.
Sin knows Vivienne is a dangerous liaison but the carnal pull is just to extreme to ignore.
The passion and lust between the two is mind blowing. Vivienne is vulnerable and innocent and Sin has no problems leading her astray. He respects she is a lady but he has needs. He knows she feels the sexual chemistry which makes him yearn for her more. He wants to do things to her that should not be done to a lady. Especially not one as special as Vivienne!
I don't want to go into any more detail regarding the story line as there is so much more to explore I wouldn't want to give any spoilers away.
I fell in love with Sin and Vivienne.
Sin comes across as insensitive and arrogant but he has demons and letting anyone in is not easy.
The more time he spends with the beautiful and kind Vivienne the more she chips at the wall.
Vivienne equally needs Sin too. She is lost, she has no real family and is trying to find her place in life. She is sheltered and Sin brings out the fun and danger she so openly craves. She knows Sin and her are not allowed. She is a Lady and he a Bastard. She just can't resist how he makes her tingle inside.
This story is more than just a Love story, it's about the need for revenge, the need to be healed and loved, innocence and danger, the underworld of gambling and the poverty.
I absolutely love Den of Iniquity.
Anabelle has taken me on a journey. Enlightened my senses, made me fall in love and be transported to the underground seedy world of a gambling hell.
She has opened my eyes to another side of the Regency genre that excites me. It was tantalising and Captivating.
I can't wait for the next instalment.
