Synopsis

5☆ A Gripping, Enthralling, Dark Romantic Suspense/ Thriller, I Couldn't Put Down!
Withstanding the Enemy Is a thrilling and gripping romantic suspense/ thriller that had me enthralled from the first few pages!
Emma's Mother died when she was just 14, in and out of foster homes, at 16 she eventually runs away from the dangers of her latest Foster home... but into the arms of the Brutal and Dangerous Rick Stevens.
Rick Stevens is a very dangerous man .... he hires young girls, has his fingers in many pies including....Owning Club Envy, along with a New York skyscraper, consisting of 20 floors, the nightclub, a gym, library and penthouse. Oh and he owns Emma, she is his and only his! She's his possession and his not about to let her go!
Chance is head security guard and has a thing for Emma, he knows she belongs to Rick and it's dangerous to even consider having feelings for her, but he can't help being drawn to her beauty and innocence!
Ms May has been looking after Rick since he was a small boy. After his mum dies she vows to protect him from his drunken abusive father. But now an adult he has changed in many ways...but she still sees that lost little boy!
Can Chance whisk Emma away to safety or is she destined to be Rick's forever!
Emma is such an endearing character, you can't help feeling sorry for her. She's very naive, comes across as innocent, has her head in the clouds and I was willing her to escape from the evil, abusive clutches of Rick!
Chance was a brilliant character, not only is he incredibly handsome, he has many sides to his character and many secrets which I loved uncovering. I was rooting for him to save Emma the whole way through!
I have to mention that there are scenes of domestic violence and sexual scenes, but are kept in line with the plot, which some readers may find sensitive to read.
Withstanding the Enemy is an enthralling and gripping Page Turner, I was on tender hooks the whole way through.
I loved the suspense and danger, the unpredictable feelings and unease I got from Rick as tension built was brilliantly plotted.
The Characters were well written, very complex and not all likeable, but that's ok as I'm pretty sure I wasn't meant to like them all!
This is my first book by T.L Mahrt and I'm very excited to read more!

About the Author:
T. L. Mahrt is a former business owner, where she utilized her education in cosmetology, barbering and massage therapy for several years. She was raised on and is currently living on a farm in Nebraska, where you can find her running barefoot in the country side with her loving husband and inspiring children and massive dogs.
After having her son, who was born with Cerebral Palsy, she made the life altering decision to stay home to care for her two children and pursue her love for writing. She has a love for romance and poetry where, her overactive imagination, along with her adventures and up beat lifestyle drives her inspiration for her writing.
T. L. Mahrt has a thirst for knowledge, and is currently working on her Bachelor of Applied Science in Communication Studies degree.
