4☆ Gritty, Authentic, Crime Fiction
Blood Acre is part of a crime fiction series, I haven't had the pleasure of reading the previous books, but I didn't have a problem reading this one as a standalone.
Constable Angus Thoroughgood and Constable Harry Currie have been put together as a new partnership on the Community Policing Team for the Briarknock area. Which isn't exactly the best news for Currie as he is old school and
Thoroughgood is almost 30yrs younger, it's the last thing he wants is a youngster getting in his way!
The pair have been tasked to the Community Policing Team as there is a gang called The Creepers’. That are terrorising the Community. They break into houses and turn vicious, beating anyone that gets in their way, regardless of age and sex.
But will The Creepers Rein come to a bitter end or will they outsmart the Policing Team!
Blood Acre is a gritty crime fiction, that really gave me an insight into the underbelly of Glasgow.
I really enjoyed all the intricate details about the crimes committed and the investigations.
The police procedural was authentic, cleverly plotted and it really shows just how much passion and reality R.J. Mitchell put into Blood Acre.
The Characters were perfectly written and believable. I liked the dynamics and tension between Thoroughgood and Currie.
I really liked the writing sytle, the chapters were short and flowed perfectly, the dialect was brilliant and it kept in theme the whole way through.
So if you are looking to try out a new gritty, authentic, crime fiction that has strong police procedural then I definitely recommend reading Blood Acre!

About RJ Mitchell:
Robert James Mitchell was brought up in Stirling. Mitchell was initially detailed beat duties out of the former Blackhill Police Office and then Baird Street Police Office in the former ‘D’ Division, or the North, as it was known to all the men who served in the division. In January, 2007, while recovering from an appendicitis, Mitchell decided to write the first draft of ‘Parallel Lines: The Glasgow Supremacy‘, drawing heavily on his own experiences and featuring the characters of Detective Sergeant Gus Thoroughgood and DC Kenny Hardie.
